Yvias Yvias is a small, quiet and rural village set
amongst hills and valleys. The
Church of Saint Judoce, which overlooks the Lotissement, is about 75 yards away
from La Carniche, and is at the centre of the village. 2 minutes walk up
the lane from the house finds you at the Bar/Tabac Le Leff, where you can pre-order
(in French) your morning baguettes and croissants. There is a
mobile grocery shop which visits on Tuesday mornings. The Mairie and post
office are also in the square just next to the church. The nearest boulangerie
and grocery store is in Plourivo, a 3 minute drive away.
Yvias is the perfect base for exploring this picturesque region of Brittany,
only 5 minutes from Paimpol, 10 minutes from beaches, and 25 minutes from
Armoripark - a water theme park.
Paimpol Paimpol has a rich maritime history, particularly of fishing off the
Newfoundland coast. Today Paimpol is a popular tourist resort, and
yachting and fishing harbour, with lots to see and do. There are boat
trips to take you to the beautiful nature reserve of the Ile de Brehat or into
the River Trieux, and a steam railway along the river estuary to Pontrieux.
Don't miss the many harbourside restaurants.
Just 5 minutes from the house is a large Centre Commercial, including hypermarchés,
restaurants, sports shops, and even a MacDonalds.
Surrounding Area The
pretty and historic town of
Lezardrieux is 10 minutes, and Plouha and Pontrieux are just 15 mintues away. There is
a traditional French market every day of the week within just a short drive.
The region has many tourist attractions, natural
beauty spots and sporting activities - see the links page
for more information.
The nearest coast is at Paimpol at 7 kilometres, and there are fantastic beaches
all around the coast. It's just 10 minutes drive to the nearest beaches and coastal activities, yet
surrounded by Breton countryside, making
La Carniche and Yvias the perfect place to make your base
to explore and enjoy. Guests have recommended the Palus Plage at
Plouha, which has restaurants, toilets, children's park and easy parking.
I love the natural resort at Poulafret in Paimpol itself, which has a beach,
childrens playgrounds, water sports, cycle track, great walks and fantastic
views - and it is less than 10 minutes drive away from La Carniche! If you
are willing to 'explore' the coast by car, then you will find different and very
varied beaches and beauty spots every day.
The Coast of Goelo (to the east) and the Pink Granite Coast (north and west) are
on your doorstep, with so much to explore and see and do.
For walkers, there is a coastal path (GR34) which extends
virtually all around the Breton coast from St Malo in the North East to Vannes
on the South coast. There are therefore several days worth on the nearby
Goelo and Granite Rose coasts.
Yvias is 90 minutes drive from the major ferry ports of Saint
Malo and Roscoff, and Dinard Airport. Click on the map for location
